Die BELAIRS aus Los Angeles wurden 1961 gegründet mit Eddie Bertrand, Richard Delvy, Paul Johnson, Jim Roberts und Chaz Stuart. Nach einigen Singles für Arvee und Triumph trennten sie sich 1963. Bertrand gründete EDDIE & THE SHOWMEN, der 2010 verstorbene Delvy und Roberts gründeten die CHALLENGERS und Johnson wurde einer der bekanntesten Session-Gitarristen in L.A., der auf Aufnahmen der Surfaris, Hondells, Super Stocks, Surf Riders, Sonny & Cher und vieler anderer zu hören ist. In 1961 THE BELAIRS were founded in Los Angeles with Eddie Bertrand, Richard Delvy, Paul Johnson, Jim Roberts, and Chaz Stuart. After a few 45s for Arvee and Triumph they separated to form EDDIE & THE SHOWMEN (Bertrand) and THE CHALLENGERS (Delvy, who passed away in 2010, and Roberts). Johnson became one of the best session guitarists of the L.A. area who recorded with the Surfaris, Hondells, Super Stocks, Surf Riders, Sonny & Cher, and many more. These days Paul keeps the memory of the BELAIRS, the DUO-TONES and the SURFARIS alive by regular newsletters to friends and fans and occasional tours with the remaining members of those groups. Diese CD enthält beide Alben sowie einige Singles, insgesamt 33 Titel. Leider ist das Booklet sehr dürftig. |

THE CASCADES were a vocal-harmony outfit from San Diego who had a string of hits in 1963. Their biggest hit (charted at Bilboard's #3) was "Rhythm Of The Rain" written by lead singer John Gummoe. The other members were David Wilson, Eddie Snyder, David Stevens, and Davy Zabo. Their singing style was way ahead of its time because they sound more like those harmony groups of the second half of the 1960s, groups like Sagittarius or the Association. |

AL CASEY began recording as a session guitarist in the mid-1950s. His first notable appearance is on Sanford Clark's legendary hit "The Fool" from 1956. After that he began recording with Duane Eddy, a co-operation that lasted for almost 10 years. Eddie Bertrand left the BELAIRS in 1963 to join the BAYMEN, Rob Edwards, Freddy Buxton and Bob Knight. They were joined by drummer Dick Dodd and renamed EDDIE & THE SHOWMEN. They came from Palos Verdes in Southern California. This was the group's basic line-up, but on occasion - recording sessions and public apearances - other people are known to have joined. Their sound was a unique hard surf music, created by Bertrand in close co-operation with guitar genius Leo Fender. There never was an LP released with this group's music, therefore this CD is the one and only chance to have a collection with all known recorded 17 songs. |

1938 in Corning, New York, geboren, zog DUANE EDDY mit Familie 1951 nach Phoenix, Arizona, um. Dort traf Eddy 1955 Al Casey, der ihn zum Session-Gitarristen weiterbildete. Lee Hazlewood, Discjockey in Phoenix, hörte Eddys einzigartigen Gitarrensound (Eddy benutzte nur die Basssaiten der Gibson-Gitarre) und nahm mit Al Caseys Hilfe ein paar Titel auf, die er an Jamie Records in Philadelphia weitergab. Der Rest ist Legende. Von Ende 1957 bis Anfang 1964 war Eddy fast ununterbrochen in den Charts, danach noch sporadisch. Nach Jamie ging Eddy zu RCA (1963 bis 1967) um sich danach Colpix Records anzuschließen. Die dort entstandenen 2 Alben befinden sich auf der CD ATC 9094-AK. Ab 1969 entstanden bei Reprise Records 3 weitere Alben, wovon eines, "Tokyo Hits", zunächst nicht in U.S.A. erschienen war. |
Born in Corning, New York, DUANE EDDY's family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1951. There, in 1955, Eddy met Al Casey who made him a first class session guitarist with a unique sound created by just using the guitar's bass strings. Phoenix dee-jay Lee Hazlewood heard Eddy's guitar playing and, with Al Casey's assistance, recorded some tracks which he sold to Harold Lipsius of Jamie Records in Philadelphia. The rest is history. Between the end of 1957 and early 1964 Eddy never left the top 100 charts, most of the time with several recordings at once. In 1963 he had left Jamie to join RCA from where he switched to Colpix in 1967. The 2 albums recorded there you will find on CD ATC 9094-AK. In 1969 he joined Reprise Records where he recorded another 3 albums, one of which, "Tokyo Hits", was not released in the U.S. for many years. |

MERRELL WAYNE FANKHAUSER was lead singer and guitarist with the IMPACTS who had a string of surf music hits for Del-Fi in 1963/1964. The group's biggest success was their album "Wipe Out" from 1963. The track "Wipe Out", however, is a different one from the one by the Surfaris. These 3 CDs are new recordings by Fankhauser. |

Die CD enthält die 12 Titel ihres Albums plus 6 Bonus-Titel. |

The Eliminators, The Zip-Codes und The Statues waren Kreationen des Allround-Musikers Buzz Cason, der als Produzent bei Liberty auf der Surf-/Hot Rod-Welle mitschwimmen wollte, und, zusammen mit für diese Art Musik sehr erfahrenen Studiomusikern, je ein Album als The Eliminators und als The Zip-Codes aufnahm. Bereits einige Jahre zuvor hatte Buzz unter dem Pseudonym Garry Miles zusammen mit den Statues mehrere erfolgreiche Singles bei Liberty eingespielt. |
The Eliminators, The Zip-Codes and The Statues were all created by musical whiz-kid Buzz Cason, who, as a producer for Liberty Records, wanted his share of the surf and hot rod music euphoria. So, together with some well-known studio musicians, he recorded one album as The Eliminators and one as the Zip-Codes - both are now legendary. A few years earlier, as Garry Miles, he had recorded several successful 45s together with the Statues. |
